It’s quite a while since I first launched this print, however I thought it was long overdue that I write a blog post explaining the ideas, the inspirations and the why about my favourite product: the Proud Meggie print.
It shouldn’t be any surprise, that this piece is much more than just a pretty picture; it’s very much a heartfelt tribute to the spirit and resilience of Cleethorpes, my town of birth and a place that is the root for my love of the sea.

The Inspiration behind Proud Meggie
The idea for Proud Meggie came off the back of the She is Grimbarian and She is Fierce pieces that I had created quite early into my journey. I wanted something that captured the same essence as the Grimsby one, but spoke more for Cleethorpes; so it needed to embody the strength, beauty and connection to the sea that defines this unique coastal town on the Lincolnshire coast.
When I asked ChatGPT for a little guidance starting this blog post, I had to chuckle that it had assumed that “Meggie” was the girl in the picture’s name. I get asked A LOT what a Meggie is, because it’s a term that isn’t known outside of Grimsby and Cleethorpes, so it makes sense others won’t be aware of this name for people born in Cleethorpes.
I’m not going to lie, I actually LOVE the idea that her name is actually Meggie.
What “Meggie” represents
Meggie’s strong posture and determined gaze reflect the resilience of the Cleethorpes community. Her oar represents the paddle boarding community, alongside the towns connection with the sea which continues to play a huge role in the town, particularly with tourism.
It felt important to include the word “Proud” on the poster, because it emphasises the strong sense of community and pride that exists in Cleethorpes.
The sun behind Meggie represents both hope and optimism, for the future.
I love the idea that this poster is so bold and eye-catching, because it gives it the ability to draw attention and create conversations, especially with those who don’t know our town.
Bringing Meggie Home
I hope that “Proud Meggie” resonates with people of Cleethorpes, whether you still live here or have moved away, there will always be a piece of Cleethorpes with you.
