Birthday cards have always been one of my best sellers, but recently, I’ve been asked why I don’t offer more Meggie birthday cards.
Well, the truth is—I do! But they don’t fly off the shelves like my Grimbarian ones.
In fact, I have a whole basket of Meggie birthday cards sitting on my shelf at @ingoodhands_shop because I bought a batch two years ago, and, well… they didn’t exactly sell. So, I moved them off my main card display to make room for the ones that do.
So, yes—if you’re looking for Meggie birthday cards, they are there! But despite the shop being in Cleethorpes, my Grimbarian designs are way more popular.
Weird, right?
The Business of Stocking Cards
Before Christmas, I did a full audit of all my greeting cards. That meant taking every single one off my shelves and the spinning card stand, counting them, and writing down exactly how many I had of each design.
This is something all businesses do—it helps us track what’s selling and what’s not, so we can reorder bestsellers and avoid wasting money on items that aren’t moving.
That doesn’t mean I immediately pull slow-selling designs from my shop. They still sell—albeit it slowly. I just don’t buy new stock of them. And once they eventually sell out, I probably won’t replace them because, well… they’re just not worth it.
So, if you’ve ever wondered why there aren’t more Meggie birthday cards, that’s why! If you do want one, you know where to find them—but if history is any indicator, you’re probably buying a Grimbarian one instead. 😉
Can I Order a One-Off Card?
I’m not currently able to offer one-off cards, because they’re not a product that I am confident making myself. Therefore, I have to order them from an outside maker, who – quite rightly – has minimum order quantities or excessive charges.
It’s also worth mentioning that cards have very low profit margins, because they can be costly for me to buy, but I can’t put the price too high otherwise they are too pricey for you, as the consumer. Ordering higher quantities helps me to keep my spending down, meaning that I can keep my prices low, in the shop.
Of course, if you wanted to order ten (or more) of the same card, then this is absolutely something that I can do for you, so feel free to send me a message (kat@madeingrimsby.co.uk) and I will see what I can do for you.
