From Clothes to Keepsakes: Sew Mini Memories’ Custom Memory Bears and Pillows

Well hello there, and welcome to another introductory blog post. If you’ve been here for a while, you will know how much I enjoy writing these posts, because they are a really great way for me to get to know more about the businesses that have joined the directory, who they are and what they do. But more than that, it’s a great opportunity for me to show you – as a customer – exactly how awesome this business is.

A large portion of my followers on both Facebook and Instagram are Millenials, and I don’t know if you know this (if you’re a Millenial yourself, you probably do), but we Millenials LOVE nostalgia. Is it because throughout our adult lives we’ve had two recessions, 9/11 and a COVID pandemic to contend with, so we’re clinging on to the innocence of childhood? I have no idea, but many media sources like to tell us that is the reason.

Whatever the reason, if you are fond of nostalgia, then you are probably going to love today’s newest business. Say hello to…

Sew Mini Memories

Sew Mini Memories creates handmade keepsakes using old clothing from loved ones who have passed away, or little ones who have outgrown them.

Keepsakes can be created from all types of clothing including:

  • Rompers
  • Baby Gros
  • Blankets

What kind of Handmade Keepsakes can I buy?

As you can imagine, Keepsakes – like all memories – are very subjective, so what you ask Sew Mini Memories to create for you, is an incredibly personal thing. However, some suggestions include…

  • Toys – Lions and Bears are incredibly popular, especially as children move into their toddler years, but also as they get older, for decoration.
  • Cushions for Playrooms, Living Rooms etc
  • Memory Quilts can be comforting as older children head off to Uni, for example or to remember lost family members

Is it just Keepsake Gifts?

Nope, Sew Mini Memories can also make the cutest items from beautiful jersey fabrics that are perfect for homemade gifts for little ones, such as:

  • Rompers
  • Bibs
  • Hats
  • Leggings
  • Bags
  • Purses

When would I need Keepsakes?

There are many life events that typically encourage an individual or family to look into creating keepsakes from something they already have, but don’t have long-term use for anymore.

There are two common reasons:

  1. When a child outgrows a piece of clothing that perhaps has a specific meaning, for example, if it was the first outfit the child wore when they came home from the hospital, or maybe it was a hand-me-down that you want to hold onto for longer
  2. A loved one has passed away and you want to hang onto their favourite piece of clothing

However, other reasons could include: creating a blanket for a special occasion, for example a wedding, a significant birthday or an anniversary. It could be to celebrate a child leaving home for the first time, perhaps as a housewarming gift. It could be a simple method of downsizing a clothing collection that you don’t want to part with.

The list of reasons is practically neverending.

Why might I want a Keepsake?

Again, this is a very personal thing for every single person, but the most common reason why anyone orders a keepsake is to cherish memories and to hold onto them in a unique way.

They are perfect for helping when you are having a bad day, and need to feel close to that certain someone.

Whilst they can’t replace a loved one, a handmade keepsake can help with the grieving process. It can help you feel connected to them.

The keepsake can be passed down, to your children, grandchildren and much further which is always a lovely thing, isn’t it? This can help to bring families together.
